Roan Yellowthorn totally transforms an Elton John classic with new track, “Sacrifice”

Hot on the heels of the release of Roan Yellowthorn‘s Rediscovered covers project, comes an angry, empowered re-imagining of Elton John’s 1989 hit, “Sacrifice

Here’s what Jackie had to say:

Hey guys!

Just wanted to let you know that today the third single, ‘Sacrifice,’ is available off of my Rediscovered album! This album is full of some of my favorite songs, rediscovered in a new way. I don’t think of these songs as covers because they are true rediscoveries.

This song, ‘Sacrifice’, is one of my favorite Elton John songs and we recreated it as a true rock song. The lyrics are so powerful and we used the emotion behind them to drive the mood of the whole thing. We have amazing performers on this album including Brockett Parsons and Ty Bailie and the song especially really rocks. I think you’ll love it.

Now that this song is out, the entire collection is available exclusively on Bandcamp. There are only three songs that can be streamed on Apple Music and Spotify (‘I Started a Joke’, ‘Sacrifice‘, and ‘We Just Disagree’), and the rest are album-only. If you want a beautiful physical copy, there are a few limited copies available on the Blue Élan website. These are really special, with original art by me and a special pull-out poster made by my friend Salimatu Amabebe.

In other news, I am currently working on my new studio album and have an Atwood Magazine column documenting the process. Catch up on parts 1-6 before the new Thursday installment comes out!

Lots of exciting things are happening – stay posted by following me on Facebook and Spotify for all of the news and new music!

Thank you,
Jackie
